HHC and THC

HHC also known as hexahydrocannabinol, along with THC, are both cannabinoids that are there. HHC though, is one that’s definitely newer, and there needs to be more research. The main difference between these though is the stability, but we’ll go over both of these.

HHC

HHC is one that works in the cannabis plant and does occur naturally, but you must convert the THC to HHC through hydrogenation. That’s a fancy name for the process that converts this, and it basically adds hydrogen atoms to THC compounds. When you add the hydrogen to the THC that’s delta 9,. Or regular THC in weed, it decreases the chance for this to bind to your CB1 and CB2 receptors.

This does increase the compound stability, so the shelf life gets increased, and it’s actually quite potent for a longer period of time. It's also far more resistant than the other cannabinoids that are there , especially when it’s exposed to both heat and UV light. HHC is definitely similar to THC in terms of the high, but it’s a lot more relaxing and sedating, so it’s similar to delta-8 THC in most cases.

HHC does make you feel more euphoric, and also may alter the visual and auditory senses that you have and it can cause a cognition change, body temp, and heart rate change. It’s important to note though that since it’s so new, there are tons of explicit studies that look at the benefits of this, and the use of this. Some people use it for similar symptoms that THC helps with, including:

  • Managing pain

  • Decreasing depression and anxiety symptoms

  • Reducing the overall inflammation

  • Boosting your sleep quality

  • Decreasing the nausea and vomiting feelings that are there

The biggest benefit of this is the fact that it does have an increased potency and shelf life, because it’s a lot more stable.

The side effects are the same ones you’re getting with THC, so keep that in mind.

The Differences and Similarities

Well, THC is one that is going to create HHC down the road. We know it as the intoxicating compound that’s in the marijuana plants, and it can get you high.

Both of these do create a high in a sense for the person that’s going to use it for other reasons.

THC is one that's more unstable, due to the fact that there are no extra hydrogen atoms, so it does break down over time. HHC is virtually the same, but it’s not as potent, and it doesn’t bind as well.

In order to crate HHC, the THC needs to be hydrogenated to create this, which means that it does require the hydrogen atom to be added, and then, it increases the stability, and the resistance to UV radiation and heat.

How to Decide what to use

HHC is one that’s used mostly for medicinal and recreational reasons, and right now, this is one that we don’t know much about, especially compared to the true capacity of this. If you’re going to get HHC, always be careful when you’re using them, as there is no regulation within this, and if you’re not sure if what you’re using is safe, just don’t consume it.

As for THC, it’s one that's become more recreationally popular, but it’s one that is great as well if you need it for medical reasons, and even the FDA has approved THC to use medically.

Both are quite similar, and hopefully, as time goes on, we not only learn a bit about HHC and its uses, but what it can do.
